Sid Phillips

Villain Overview

Sidney "Sid" Phillips is the main antagonist of Toy Story, and a cameo character in Toy Story 3.

He is a toy-torturous-delinquent-turned-into-garbageman. He is the brother of Hannah and Scud's owner. He is originally Andy's next door neighbour (until Andy moves) and officially the street's meanest kid ever moved in. Unlike and the opposite version counterpart of Andy, he tortures and destroys toys as his amusement. His toy destroying fun was ultimately ceased when he got Woody and Buzz from the claw rocket machine at pizza planet.

He was voiced by Erik von Detten.

Biography[]

Toy Story[]

He is Andy's next-door neighbor until Andy moves, he mainly enjoys destroying and tortures toys. He is the meanest kid on the street and he's a delinquent. Many of his toys are either destroyed, have pieces missing, or have pieces replaced with other toy parts. He is also shown scaring his little sister and destroying her toys aswell in various methods, including exploding, burning, and decapitating them. He also enjoys skateboarding and his shirt bears the logo of Zero Skateboards. The toys mention that he is consistently kicked out of summer camp due to his bad behaviour and in the audio commentary on the tenth anniversary DVD, the directors mention that he is a bully. It is also implied that he doesn't have the best home life. His parents don't make any major appearances; his father is only glimpsed briefly asleep in a chair with the TV on.

He seems to be the only human depicted in the film to have witnessed toys actually come alive. At the end of the first film, Woody and Sid's mutant toys decide to rescue Buzz by scaring Sid, which causes him to becomes very frightened of toys. Woody pulls the last straw on him by coming alive and telling him to never again do his amusement of torturing toys anymore in his life or else. They have omniscience to see everything shows they spy on him just in case he obeys their message of never again torturing toys and they torture him back as blackmail. This causes Sid to fearfully panic and races back into his house, then to his room when Hannah scares him more with her replacement toy doll. He now suffers Pediophobia overall his entire life by seeing Woody and his toys alive. He is no longer the street's meanest kid, quits bullying Hannah, ceases being a delinquent and doesn't torture toys again in order to avoid being killed and prevent himself rejecting their blackmail thus gets him killed.

Sid does not appear in the second film, but is mentioned once by Buzz during the toys' mission to rescue Woody from Al McWhiggin. Sid also appears in the four-issue Monsters, Inc. comic mini-series produced by Boom! Comics. In the third film, an adult Sid makes a brief appearance as a garbageman with a small beard, recognizable by his characteristic T-shirt. He has no real dialogue in this role, and is instead depicted singing a song on his MP3 Player.

Toy Story 3[]

In this film, Sid is much older just like Andy. He is no longer anymore and previously a toy-abusive delinquent, he's now a garbage collector in adulthood. He finally gets over Pediophobia. Woody doesn't remember him and forgotten him from the 1st film because his only attention is saving his friends. He enjoys heavy metal rock music that shows he enjoys his job and goes mentally crazy after being scared of the toys from his childhood back in the 1st film. Later while Woody and his friends escapes the dump to hitch a ride home by being transported a ride on Sid's garbage truck; thus leaves Lotso for dead and being a inhabitant of the landfill.

Trivia[]

Sid is one of the two Pixar antagonists to appear in more than one film, the other being Randall Boggs.
He is the only human character who knows that toys are alive.
Snotty Boy from the 2006 movie Barnyard appears to be based off of Sid, due to both being bratty children, Sid tortures toys while Snotty Boy abuses cows. They both reformed as they learn the horror of their victim species. Sid discovers toys are alive while Snotty Boy finds out that animals can talk.
